The "Steinbeck Principle"

I really appreciate this quote, attributed to John Steinbeck, Nobel Prize-winning author of the The Grapes of Wrath:

"When I face the desolate impossibility of writing 500 pages, a sick sense of failure falls on me and I know I can never do it. Then, gradually, I write one page and then another. One's day's work is all that I can permit myself to contemplate."

I have come to relate this quote to what I call the "Steinbeck Principle." It highlights the importance of breaking down any task, project, or even our lives, into small, "doable" pieces. It's like the idea behind the famous saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
